We would like to welcome all our students and families back to PS54 for
the 2026-2027 school year. There is nothing like welcoming students back
to school each September! We hope all of you had a wonderful summer
and were able to make fun memories with family and friends.
We are excited to begin a new year of working and learning together. This
year we will continue to use HMH/Into Reading as our reading program and
enVisions as our math program. Our focus will be on deepening our work
in both reading and math. Teachers will focus on asking deeper questions
to spark student interest while asking them to explain their thinking.
Emphasis will be placed on adding student voice to lessons through deep
conversations around the content in all subjects.
Deepening our work around Math will be a priority this school year. We
hired Ms. Marcia Killpatrick as our Math Coach. Ms. Kilpatrick will work
with all classroom teachers as they plan and deliver math lessons that
focus on students understanding the “why” of math. This is in alignment
with “New York City Solves,” which is implemented in all New York City
Schools. We are excited to see all the wonderful work that Ms. Kilpatrick
will do with our PS54 “mathematicians!”
Please come to our Fall Curriculum Conference on September 30, 2026.
At the Curriculum Conference you will meet our staff and will learn about
the academic work your children will be doing this school year. You will
receive information regarding the conference this week. Please make
every effort to attend this important meeting.
We wish everyone a wonderful school year! If you have any questions or
concerns do not hesitate to reach out to Administration or our Parent
Coordinator, Ms. Titolo.
Sincerely,
Ms. Karen LaRosa, Principal
Ms. Kim Hamer, Assistant Principal
Dr. Anthony Seriki, Assistant Principal
