American Museum of Natural History Residency

American Museum of Natural History Residency

Our school participated in a week-long residency program at the American Museum of Natural History through the Beyond Elementary Explorations in Science (BEES) initiative. The program, part of the museum's educational efforts, allows New York City public school classes to use the entire museum campus as a classroom for a week, integrating science, math, literacy, and social studies. Students from PS 54 engaged in various activities across museum exhibits, focusing on global ecosystems through the perspective of insects. They explored insect behavior, traits, and the decline of insect populations globally, using a multi-sensory approach. The initiative extends beyond a typical one-day field trip, providing an immersive learning experience for students. The program builds on the museum's Urban Advantage initiative, a citywide partnership with the Department of Education and cultural organizations, aiming to enhance science education for students.
