P.S 54 Curriculum for 2023-2024

  • ELA Curriculum: HMH/Into Reading
      • Grounded in science-based reading methods that have proven how students acquire reading skills, HMH Into Reading provides comprehensive, explicit, and systematic instruction in foundational literacy skills, aligned with a research-based scope and sequence that provides students with a foundation to become confident, independent readers and writers.
      • HMH Into Reading supports Grades K–6 teachers as they nurture students on their paths as emerging readers and writers with the flexibility to adapt Foundational Skills instruction to meet all students’ needs, while immersing students in successful reading and writing experiences.
  • Math Curriculum:  Go Math
    •  Designed to help students develop a deep understanding of mathematics.
    •  It follows the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and is divided into different levels for each grade.
    • Each level contains units that focus on specific mathematical concepts such as algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis, and more.
    • The program also includes interactive activities and games to keep students engaged while learning.
    • The Algebra For All initiative will also continue to be used in our fifth-grade. Student data has proven these math approaches work well at P.S. 54.
    • In addition, our teachers are using best practices such as NumberTalks, Number Strings, Dot Talks, and mathematical discourse to deepen students' understanding about a variety of mathematical concepts, which places our students on the path to be college and career ready.

MTSS is a framework many schools use to provide targeted support to students.A multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) is a proactive framework that integrates data and instruction to maximize student achievement. The programs we use to support our students who receive MTSS are
